Secure Productive Enterprise – the modern Enterprise Desktop package

For quite some time Microsoft has been talking about modern licensing solutions, it took a while but finally they’ve put their money where their mouth is. At first glance it looked like just another name change to the not so popular Enterprise Cloud Suite, commonly known as ECS in the Microsoft world of three letter abbreviations. For those of you not acquainted with ECS it was a package of Windows, Office 365 E3 and Enterprise Mobility Suite. A package licensed in a true per user licensing model. It was a “modern” replacement of the Pro- or Enterprise Desktop that has been around for years, but instead of device based licenses for Windows and Office you got user based ones and access to the productive Cloud Services including the IT management services like Intune to keep track of all your devices.Read More »

The release of Windows Server 2016 and core based licensing


Oh my! This is truly the year of releases at Microsoft. Just a few days ago SQL Server 2016 was released to market and since January we’ve received new versions for other server applications such as Exchange, Sharepoint and Project Server. It’s not only the servers that gets a facelift, Office 2016 has been around for a while and during the summer Windows 10 Redstone will be available. And the release party doesn’t stop there. For the second half of this year we will see new version of Windows Server, System Center and BizTalk.

Luckily there haven’t been any major change in licensing for these new versions. The release of Windows Server and System Center 2016 won’t be as simple when Microsoft transitions from the processor based licensing to a core based model. Microsoft Agreement Roadmap – one unified approach

The times are a-changing…even when it comes to Microsoft volume licensing agreements.
During the last years there has been a lot of focus on user-based licensing with the introduction of Office 365, Enterprise Mobility Suite, Enterprise Cloud Suite and Windows per user. They have all one thing in common – the cloud – and they offer increased flexibility, productivity and a modern way of work.

When it comes to agreements, to purchase these services – the change has not been that dramatic. Sure, we have received updated Enterprise agreements to facilitate the new ways to license our desktops, but now it is time for some real change even for the volume licensing agreements.

Microsoft Products and Services Agreement – a contractual model that fits all

Microsoft has announced that it will raise its entry threshold for Enterprise Agreement Contracts to 500 desktops from 1 July 2016. Reason enough for us to take a closer look at the Microsoft Products and Service Agreement (MPSA) as an alternative for companies with between 250 and 499 desktops.

As reported earlier, companies ranging below the newly defined threshold of 500 desktops can only conclude an Enterprise Agreement Contract until 30 June 2016. But in the Microsoft Products and Services Agreement, Microsoft already offers its customers an alternative that we would now like to present to you in a little more detail. The MPSA License Program has been around since 2014, and is used to standardize license procurement for online services and software deployed in a local environment.
